ROUTINE &
HIGH RISK OBSTETRICAL CARE:
As
a physician and a mother, Dr. Rashada understands the medical
and emotional needs of an expectant mother. Obstetrics is an important
part of her practice, and she feels that being selected to help
bring forth the next generation of a woman's family is an honor
and a huge responsibility she does not take lightly. Thus, she
works hard to tailor care to the needs of expectant moms and their
babies.
INFERTILITY:
Infertility affects approximately 15% of all couples who attempt
to conceive. These couples need an investigator to determine the
complexity of their specific problem. In her office, Dr. Rashada
provides initial evaluation, counseling and treatment, if appropriate.
MENOPAUSAL
CARE:
Coping
with changes at this challenging stage of life requires sensitivity,
compassion, and skill. Dr. Rashada wants her patients to be educated
about menopause to help them meet that challenge. The pros and
cons of hormone replacement therapy, its multiple modes of administration,
as well as other non-pharmaceutical options, are openly discussed.
GYNECOLOGICAL
CARE:
The routine office and hospital procedures performed most often
by Dr. Rashada's practice include:
- Colposcopy (with directed
biopsy): Microscopic examination of the cervix used for further
evaluation of abnormal pap smears.
- Cryosurgery: A treatment
that freezes abnormal areas on the cervix, vulva or vagina,
causing cellular death.
- Leep (Loop Electrosurgical
Excision Procedure): A procedure used to excise or remove an
abnormal portion of the cervix.
- Hysteroscopy: A small scope
with an attached camera is passed through the cervix to view
the inside of the uterus allowing diagnosis and treatment of
intrauterine problems.
- Hysterectomy: One of the
most common gynecological surgeries in the United States. A
hysterectomy may be performed trans-vaginally or through an
abdominal incision.
- Myomectomy: The removal
of benign uterine tumors (fibroids) from the wall of the uterus.
Thus, preserves the uterus for childbearing.
- Pelvic Laparoscopy: A small
scope and operating instruments are passed through small abdominal
incisions to diagnose and treat pelvic problems.
- D & C (Dilatation and
Curettage): Scraping of intrauterine cavity to diagnose and
treat abnormal bleeding or evacuate non-viable pregnancies.
- Oophorectomy/Cystectomy:
Removal of an ovary or ovarian cyst through a laparoscope or
open incision.
- Tubal Sterilization: Permanent
sterilization performed immediately postpartum or in the intrapartum
period.
- Laser Therapies: Removal
of defects and warts from the vulva or vagina, as well as treatment
of wrinkles and hair removal.
ADOLESCENT CARE:
As
young girls cross the threshold of womanhood there is a need for
compassionate care and counseling to help set them on a proper
path of self discovery. Dr. Rashada feels this is so necessary
because it empowers young women to make informed decisions about
their health and their bodies that may affect and impact the rest
of their lives. As a woman and a physician she feels uniquely
positioned to assist in this service.
